The weekend of 27 – 28 September 2014 was another eventful one for Bridgnorth Running Club. On the Saturday morning the club produced an excellent turnout for the 5k Telford Park Run with nine members taking part. William Laye wore the orange 20 minute vest to lead round those aiming for that time, William completing on his 52nd Park Run in 19.59 minutes. Five of the members achieved PB’s for the course.  Andrew Davies 20.19, Matt Kirkby 20.32, Nichola Rushin 25.36, Jean James 25.55 and Lucy Watkins in 31.13. Two members were trying the Park for the first time Sam Parton in 27.32 and Simon Mapp 29.02 while Sam Trevor ran her fifth Park Run in 30.49.

In the afternoon several members ran a multi terrain event organised by Black Country Triathletes held on the Apley Park Estate which consisted of three individual races, a 5k, 10k,and a half marathon 21k (photo above). In the 5k Amanda Prescott came 29th out of 47 runners with a chip time of 36.15. The 10k in which eleven members entered and actually turned out to be 11k (8.60 miles),  William Laye achieved 2nd place out of 102 runners and  in only just behind the sprinting  winner in a time of 44.58 minutes, Andrew Davies at 13th  in  53.09, Nickie Smith 30th  59.36 , Sarah Grainger 42nd  64.39, Dave Prescott 45th  65.09,Jenny Norton 52nd  67.53, Jean James 61st  69.17, Rachael Holland 78th in  74.40, Sam Parton 81st   67.22, Lucy Watkins 84th  67.50 and Deborah Leith in 100th place with a time of 85.55.

The 21k, half marathon, had four members running over a very tough course with the distance turning out to be in excess of fourteen miles! Out of a total field of 57 competitors Ed Beards came in 21st with a time of 1 hour 59 minutes 28 seconds followed by Scott Mathers in 30th place in 2.10.04.  Colin Noble achieved a result in 43rd position of 2.21.36 and finally Jason Matthews in 3.02.15.

Many of the members came away happy with a trophy for winning age category positions and a good afternoon was had by all despite the races being of a higher standard than expected before the start.

The next day, Sunday 28 September, saw four members who could not get enough the previous day take on the 10k multi terrain Brown Clee Burn from Stoke St. Milborough Village Hall. William Laye in 48 minutes was 4th while Scott Mathers easily beat Andrew Davies who came in a few seconds over the hour and Dave Prescott not far behind. At the time of writing the full results have still to be published. The field was approximately 50 runners. This event was held in glorious sunshine, going out along the lane before turning off up The Shropshire Way to  the top of Clee Burf  and down the track to Nordy Bank  with far reaching stunning views over the county towards Long Mynd before back along another lane through Stoke Gorse and back to the village hall where a bacon and egg bap awaited all finishers together with cups of tea. A very well organised race with plenty of marshals and water enroute. For the efforts all finishers also received a Brown Clee Burn certificate!
