On Sunday 4th May BRC Members, Will Laye and Natalie Carr, took part in a unique race, with runners across the globe. Here's how Will found it. And yes, in the picture above (click the photo to enlarge), that is Will in the blue vest leading the race from the start!!!!
"The Wings For Life World Run was the most unique event I've ever run and probably the best too. It's differs from most other races in that there is no set distance to complete; you get a 30 minute head start on a 'catcher car' that gets incrementally faster over time. When the car catches up to you, your race is over!
Having no set distance to run to introduced so many new challenges, things like how to pace, what goals to aim for but most of all it encouraged you to push yourself to your limits. I managed 19.5 miles in 2:31:01 before the car caught me, which was good enough for 43rd position. I recommend this race to every runner out there, it's suitable for 5Kers to ultramarathoners, how far you go is up to you. PLUS - there was a free bar afterward!!"
Another big difference with this run was that there were runs synchronised all round the world, with one overall World winner. Wills effort of 19.5 miles was fantastic, but the winner, running in Austria, managed a whopping 48 miles in just over 5 hours before the car finally caught him!!!!!
